This week I read Jinxed. The story is about an athletic boy named Chad. Chad is the batboy for the Pine City Porcupines and Wally told him that his resume was very impressive. Chad knows a lot about baseball and couldn't wait to be part of the team.
During the baseball season the Pine City Porcupines had to face the leading team, Heron Lake Humdingers. They ran into a few rough problems. The shortstop, Mike, is having a bad season and thinks he's jinxed. Dylan, the second batboy, is not having fun because he actually doesn't like baseball. Spike, the mascot, was having fun as the mascot.
I enjoyed reading the story because it reminds me of my baseball team. Every team goes through rough times in baseball and fun times too. I would recommend this book because it taught me to never give up. I think all of my friends in my class would enjoy this book because it is a long book!

The Giant Swing - Ready Freddy
The title of the story is the Giant Swing. The story is about Freddy. He is funny. He is always scared and he has two friends, named Robbie and Jessie.
Freddy is scared to go on the rides at the fair. Robby helps him go on the swing by testing it around so he is swinging in a circle. Freddy realized it was not that bad so he wasn't scared anymore.
I liked this book because it was funny and Freddy faced his fears. When I went to Ohio, I went on a ride and I was scared just like Freddy. I went on the ride and I liked it! I would tell my friends to read this book because it is fun to read. You can look for the word "FIN" in each illustration!

Mrs. D's Sample Review
This week I read On Board the Isaac Webb from our classroom reading text. The story is about a courageous girl named Lisbeth and her family who leave their home in Liverpool, England and sail to New York. Lisbeth is courageous for moving to a new place that is so far and so different from her home. She had never been on a merchant ship before and was woried about the rough seas.
Lisbeth and her family face many hardships along the way. The seas are rough and they run into the worst storm to hit the merchant ship route that season They endured a week of severe weather and the ship was damaged by the winds. The broken ship had to slow down which caused them to run out of provisions. Then, the Isaac Webb became stuck on a sandbar. They were too far off the coast to dock so the crew and passegners had to wait to see if other ships would come to tow them out.
I enjoyed reading this story because the characters were interesting and brave. The author used great description and details when describing the story which made it easy for me to visualize what was happening. I could almost feel the wind blowing when the author wrote that, “The sound of the wind screaming through the air made my eardrums feel as if they were going to burst!” On Board the Isaac Webb is definately a story I would recommend.
